Progress

Praise God, EvanMarie is beginning to feel better as engraftment has started. After some very difficult days, it is a gift to see her talking, joking, and playing again. She still isn’t eating, but she is drinking water, which is an encouraging step forward.

We are closely watching her ANC, the measure of her white blood cell count. Today it is 1220, up from 310 yesterday and 110 the day before. Once it remains above 1500 for several days, the doctors will begin weaning her from IV medications and start watching how she does with eating and drinking. After that, we will begin talking about a possible discharge date.

After nearly three weeks on Floor 8, the days have blurred together. It has been exhausting and, at times, very hard to watch her suffer. But today we are simply grateful to see real progress.

Thank you for your continued prayers. God hears our cries.

I have been following your updates and praying for your family since October, when a woman from my writing community shared EvanMarie’s story with us. When I was in high school, my younger sister, Anne-Marie, went through an autologous bone marrow transplant. Your recent posts have reminded me of that time, of the separation we experienced, of my sister’s suffering that I just didn’t understand at that time, of my own journey, and of my mom’s indescribable courage and strength (of which I also didn’t understand at that time). Praying with your family’s story is healing a part of my own story. Thank you for these updates, for allowing others in, for inviting us to be witnesses to your faith and to your suffering. This is the body of Christ. I am thankful for you.

Raine thank you for sharing about the healing you’ve experienced through our journey. It is a mystery to me how God does it, but He truly does weave an incredible tapestry of our lives. And the threads that bind us are sometimes long and very raveled.
